Such value for money here, no need to spend 3-4x as much on All-Clad...these are just as heavy and put together just as well. I'm glad I could never get myself to drop the $$$ on the other companies product. I expected them to be nice from reading the Consumer Reports piece but I was blown away by this set.
This IS the set to buy, don't get a nonstick set...from experience. Even the best coatings wear off over time, you can't use metal whisks in them, and who really needs a nonstick stock pot?
You don't need nonstick for most cooking, you will get better browning and pan sauces from a regular pan, yes you need nonstick for eggs and pancakes but you can always buy a matching nonstick skillet to go with these and still wind up spending much less.

Better than Expected

I usually like to see and feel things before buying them online, but I took a gamble this time based on review here and elsewhere and it paid off. I could not find this set in any store locally. This set is MUCH better than I expected it to be. The pans are Heavy, (but thats a quality heavy not a too "heavy" to lift) and compared to a stainless Farberware set I've bought in the past, I think I will like this set even more. It seems to be built to last (my $100.00 Farberware set is 14 years old). I like the fact that you can put these (frying pans) in the oven without too much worry on "melting" the handles. I like the way the covers fit on the pots as well.
KitchenAid Essentials -- A Real Essential for Your Kitchen

I received my KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials set this week, and I am thrilled! The first thing I noticed was the perfect weight of the pans . . . then I decided to put the small skillet to the ultimate test . . . scrambled eggs! Honestly, I expected them to stick like glue to the pan. I sprayed first with a non-stick spray, added a teaspoon of butter (like always), and cooked the most perfect eggs ever. This skillet worked better than the teflon coated pans I have used in the past, and the clean-up was a breeze. I was convinced to buy this set when I saw the high ratings the set received from Consumer Reports, and ALL the reviews I read gave this set an A. I"ll give it an A+!
Best yet

I was replacing sturdy 40 year-old pots and pans with reluctance. This set is even better and likely to outlive me by far! Finish is so smooth I just swish it out to clean - no dishwasher needed. I like the cool handles and the fact I can use it in the oven to 400 degrees. Very pleased and recommend highly.
Vinegar is Your Friend

Vinegar will easily get rid of those "stains" that some of the reviewers have mentioned. So will a good (and non-scratch) powder scrub like Barkeepers Friend.
I've had the same set of Cuisinart pots and pans for 20 years; vinegar and Barkeepers Friend have helped me to keep them in good shape. |
My New Pots & Pans Set

Ordered this set because I wanted to change out some of my old pots & pans. I also did my homework and found out, that this product was rated very high in the consumer reports ratings. I chose a stainless steel cookware because of sanitation, safety, and durability after many washings. After trying it, I am very pleased. After cooking meats the first time in the frying pan, the surface had a splotchy look even after scrubbing and washing. I was not sure why this happened. However, to solve this, I used a metal cream cleaner and it came out like brand new. I would not recommend using anything very abrasive. No problem on the cleaning. It was very easy to me. The cooking was very evenly heated and all of my foods came out very good.

I decided to buy a stainless steel cookware set after my nonstick pans started losing their coating after only a few months of use. I decided on this set because it was recommended by consumer reports. I've had these pans for 6 months now and I love them. They heat evenly and food doesn't stick if you use a little oil and let foods like meat cook awhile before flipping. They are also easy to clean.
Excellent Choice

We recently purchased this cookware and have been using it for about a month. The cookware is great. It is heavy-weight, but not so heavy that you can't handle it easily. I highly recommend it and would definitely buy it again.

I love this set. They are heavy and excellent quality. I do need a good egg pan though. The skillet does stick so something else for eggs would be better. I am not putting in dishwasher as I don't want to dull the finish even though they are dishwasher safe. They look nice too. The price was good.

The KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials stainless cookware set is just what the doctor -- or the chef -- ordered. Well and substantially made, comfortable to use, and easy to clean. We replaced a very old Revereware set with these KitchenAid pots after doing a lot of research, and we're very very pleased.
Kitchenaid versus Tramontina
|
Review Date: May 12, 2007

I agree with the other reviewers -this Kitchenaid set provides excellent value from Amazon with free shipping, it looks great, heats evenly, and is very substantial, it should last a lifetime.
My old cookware was a little worn, a mixture old pots/pans incl stainless/teflon/anodized and my plan was to replace it with stainless, and selected enamelled cast iron/blue steel cookware.
My second choice was Tramontina also in the CR review, but it was more expensive, the pan/pot sizes were not ideal, and it was mainly available at Walmart.
One thing I wanted was a pasta insert but the Kitchenaid accessory was quite expensive and unavailable, also several reviewers did not like it's balance when empty. I decided on a Tramontina 8 qt Multi cooker from Costco on- line which was only a little more expensive and much more useful, and the lids/inserts fit the Kitchenaid large pot as well. Comparing 8 qt pots they are for all practical purposes identical, the wall thickness feels greater on the Kitchenaid pot, but I like the option of using the glass cover on the large Kitchenaid frying pan, and the other mix/match possibilities. I think I will use both pots, if not I will keep the inserts and donate the Tramontina pot. Overall the additional pots I purchased: the Tramontina 8 qt Multi Cooker and 5 qt Saute Pan (Costco on line and store), and the 9 inch De Buyer Crepe pan (SurLaTable on line) all combined cost about the same as this Kitchenaid 10 piece set from Amazon (under 50% list).
I used the seasoning cookware hgtv oven method and although sceptical at first it really seems to work, for clean up I just use very hot water and a nylon scrubber (simmer with water on the stove a few minutes if needed) no steel wool, detergent, metal tools, or metal polish.
Update:Overall I think a set of OK but buying individual pieces is better.

Great cookware. I was surprised on how flat the bottoms of the pots are, they sit firmly on oue glass cooktop. We had no problems with food sticking and it heats very evenly.
